Prawn Noodle Soup

You Will Need
1 x Red Onion, chopped
2 x Celery Stalks, chopped
Butter Beans (1/2 a tin)
Sweetcorn (small tin)
80g cooked prawns
Noodles (I used one serving of dried egg noodles)
Stock (I used a Knorr stock pot to make 500ml of stock)
Olive Oil

This is so easy, so quick, so delicious, and so low cal! I'm calling it a soup, but it's chockful of ingredients meaning it is kind of between a really chunky soup and a really light casserole!

So all you're going to do, is fry your onion and celery in a little oil, til the onion is starting to brown.
Make up 500ml of stock-I used a chicken Knorr stock pot and it worked really nicely.
Pour the stock over the onion and celery.
Drain the butterbeans and sweetcorn, and throw them in as well.
I just used some Sharwood medium egg noodles-already packed in one serving sizes-throw them in the stock for 4 minutes, til the noodles are soft.
Then I stirred in my already cooked prawns.
An optional extra, is a bit of hot sauce or chilli flakes for a bit of a kick!

This actually made me 3 small servings, but the whole saucepan full would total about 550 calories. All the flavours and textures together-sweet onion, juicy prawns, sloppy noodles and salty stock-are so enjoyable and the butterbeans (I love butter beans A LOT) and prawns really help fill you up like a proper hearty meal would.

Enjoy!

OH! Isn't the soup bowl great? My mum got me and my boy two for Christmas, one grey set and one cream set. She got them from a local shop, but I've found them on ebay for cheaper! (Don't tell Mummy)

Bacon, Rice and Bean Stuffed Pepper

I shan't lie. This meal came from my own laziness. I got dressed to go into town to get my dinner...then had a massive fail in which I took my shoes right back off, parked my arse down, and thought "I'll just eat what's in the cupboard and fridge." Now this could have led to me eating cold baked beans from the tin (again) followed by chocolate digestives. Instead I sort of just mixed everything I found (excluding the biscuits) and shoved it inside a pepper. Nice. To recreate the complicated masterpiece of the hermit chef, follow this...

You Will Need (Serves 2)

2 Peppers of any colour
Brown Rice-about 3 uncooked tablespoons
2 Bacon rashers, chopped
Half an Onion, diced
Tin of Baked Beans
Any soy sauce, herbs or spices you desire

  • Cook the rice as per the instructions on the packet (obvs)
  • In the meantime, fry up your onion and bacon. When mine was done, I splashed some soy sauce over the top, and let them sit in it as the rice finished cooking.
  • When the rice is cooked and drained, mix in the bacon, onion, any herbs you like, and about 4 tablespoons of baked beans, sauce and all.
  • Slice the top off your pepper, and scoop out the seedy inside bit. Fill with your ricey beany mixture.
  • Put the lid on your pepper, then stick on a baking tray in the oven at about 190, for 15-20 mins.
  • If you're lucky, and your pepper has a sturdy base, you can just slide onto a plate. Mine fell over, so I had to kind of scoop and sweep, but it all tastes the same.
  • Enjoy! (I served mine with the gourmet choice of chips and salad leaves)

Other fillings/cupboard findings that would be great would be either rice or cous-cous with tuna, kidney beans and peas, or perhaps just prawns and a sweet chilli sauce. Let me know your suggestions too!

Posh Party Food- Beetroot and Brie

I love a bit of birthday party buffet cheese and pineapple on sticks. I could eat about 20 of them without stopping. When I'm feeling less nostalgic and a bit more grown up, pairing beetroot with either brie or goat's cheese is a delicious but still fun alternative.

Topshop Tall Trousers

Got these bad boys in the sale down to £15! They were available in the Petite, Regular and Tall ranges but I think they're all sold out now, they are online.
I tried them on instore in the regular range but they were a bit short, so I ordered the Tall ones online and collected instore. You have to pay £2 to go and collect them instore which I think is a bit cheeky from a massive brand like Topshop, when a lot of places offer free collection or even free delivery, but what can you do! I had a giftcard so I can't grumble too much.
I truly love these trousers when on, they're very comfortable, and play into the print trouser trend nicely without being too brash. They don't actually seem that much longer in the leg-I think they're meant to be an ankle crop, so even the Tall is only about a 32" leg, but the fit on the body and hips is much better for me.
I styled them with my Mulberry Tillie Tote, Topshop studded boots and ASOS sheepskin sleeve sweater.

Delicious and Diet Friendly: Dijon Chicken Salad

Dijon Chicken Salad

You Will Need:
Cooked Chicken-about 3 tablespoon size portion
Low-fat Greek yoghurt-2 tablespoons
Dijon Mustard-1 teaspoon
Pepper x1 of any colour
Red Onion x1
Celery stalk x2
Lettuce or spinach salad
Oil/Spray

Serves 1
Total prep and cook time-Less than 20 minutes.

Threw this together to use some of the chicken from the Sunday roast and the celery from the mushroom stack, it is surprisingly filling and by my calculations comes in at under 300 calories per serving.

  • Simply chop up a red onion, a pepper and a couple of celery sticks and cook in a frying pan in a little oil or low cal spray. I already had leftover chicken, if you're using it fresh, sizzle in a diced chicken breast with your veggies.
  • After about 10 minutes, I poured in a couple of tablespoons of water so the onion was nice and soft, and a little gooey. I also just like the sizzle it makes. Cook for a few minutes longer, then set aside to cool.
  • In a bowl mix together the dijon mustard and low fat greek yoghurt-I used Total 0% fat.
  • Fill a plate with your salad leaves, then scrape about half your mixture of cooked veg on top.
  • Mix the rest with your dijon flavoured mix, and add that on top too.
Smells amazing, tastes amazing, and is totally guilt free when you think about your 5-a-day. Perfect!

Bacon Roast Potatoes + Sunday Undies!

Bacon Wrapped Roasties

Roast potatoes are undoubtably one of the greatest things in the world. Only one way they can be made better... wrap 'em in bacon.
It tastes so good, and it's such an easy and cheap way to change up your Sunday roast.
Just wait til your potatoes (preferably homemade, or frozen if you're feeling lazy) are almost done. When there's about 15 minutes cooking time left, just wrap a few potato parcels in delicious bacon. I used half a rasher per potato. Then stick back in the oven to continue cooking. Then dig in!

Now you might be feeling a bit lethargic and full of tummy after the bacony goodness. Slipping into some fancy pants will definitely perk you right back up! My New Years resolution for the last 3 years has been to wear matching underwear. This year I've decided to give myself a winning chance by actually owning some matching sets. This "Heart Breaker" set from Playful Promises has to be one of my favourites with it's tongue in cheek design! I think it comes in other colours too, but the purple is currently on sale-the bra down to £12 and the knickers down to £10. It comes in sizes like Small, Medium and Large rather than cup sizes and fits like a triangle bikini does-so may not be suitable for those of you blessed with larger assets than my size smalls, but a set like this is fashion not function, and is very pretty indeed!

Happy Sunday everyone, I wish amazing roasts and flirty lingerie for you all!

Mushroom, Celery and Cheese Stack + KISS!

Mushroom, Celery and Cheese Stack

You Will Need
Chestnut Mushrooms or Flat Mushrooms
Soft Cheese
Celery
Cheddar Cheese
BBQ Sauce
Oil

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 15-20 Minutes

Layering-not just for outfits.

  • Lightly grease each hollow of a muffin tin to begin.
  • Give your mushrooms a wash, then cut the stalks out as close to the mushroom head as you can. (It will almost "pop" out). Put the stalks to one side. Place a mushroom into each hole in your baking tin.
  • Fill each mushroom with about a teaspoon of soft cheese. Any variety is fine-I used garlic and herb for extra flavour.
  • Chop up a celery stick finely, and carry on filling each mushroom with the slices.
  • Add a blob of BBQ sauce on the top-or you could use sweet chilli sauce, or I reckon dijon mustard would work nicely.
  • Top with a thin slice of cheddar cheese, or basically any cheese you have in your fridge already. Brie would be amaze, and also blue stilton paired with celery is heaven sent.
  • Add another blob of sauce, and use it as a glue to rejoin the mushroom stalk to it's previous partner.
  • Drizzle with olive oil, vegetable oil, flora spray-whatever you have to hand.
  • Stick in the oven at 180 for 15-20 mins.
  • After you've scooped the mushrooms onto a plate, you should have mushroomy, cheesy oilyness left in the tray. Lightly drizzle this back over the plate for extra flavour and to keep those mushrooms moist!
  • EAT!

I served mine with veg and chicken, but if you used larger flat mushrooms, this could even be a starter.
Now, assuming you probably have some sauce, some oil, and just any kind of cheese in your fridge, based on current Tesco prices, you could make this for you and a friend for £2.89 and then have soft cheese and celery leftover for later. You can totally fill a celery stick up with soft cheese and have as a kind of nearly healthy snack!

Now that your purse is still feeling pleasantly full and so is your stomach, you definitely deserve a treat.
How about this Amplified Kiss Baseball Top from ASOS which is recommended at £30 but is being sold at a mere £12.50?

I KNOW I DID!

Fashionista V. Food

Hello and welcome. After blogging over at hannahvictoriaa-hannahvictoriaa.blogspot.com for a little over a year and finding my enthusiam for setting up the ole tripod for awkward outfit posts dwindling fast, I had a little rethink.
Here is what I thought about:

Fashion and Food. My two most favouritest things (cue horribly hurt face from boyfriend). I spend my spare time, as well as my work daydreaming times, thinking about shopping and sandwiches. I spend most, no-ALL, of my spare money on clothing and cooking.

And there is the dilemma-the spare time and money. I need food, but I also need shoes. I work full time, though my wage is not the best. I also have a part time degree to pay for. But I don't want to eat crap, or wear crap. So I'd like to share tasty but simple ideas, that are a bit more impressive than the average student fare, but don't take an age or a cupboard full of exotic ingredients to make. And also leave you with funds leftover for precious, precious clothes, shoes and accessories.

I'm not sure yet how this blog will work just yet, and it might take some time to get the hang of it, but you can bet your bottom dollar there'll be pretty clothes and delicious food. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?

P.S. Just a quick disclaimer. You will find no rainbow striped cupcakes here. As of yet, I do not bake. If you want a sweet treat, eat a chocolate bar or search on tumblr for fashionably dreamy foodstuffs.
